Our Mission

The mission of the Tribal Development Division is to carry out its responsibilities and mandates in a manner that fosters and encourages long-term, holistic and sustainable development within the territory of the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe within the overarching goal of maintaining and advancing our Anishinabe way-of-life and sovereignty.

Our Goals & Objectives

  1. Development of long-term comprehensive planning that provides for sustained, effective growth throughout the territory.
    1. Convening of Round Tables and other forums for integrated discussion and planning with other divisions;
    2. participation in program, service or project planning at the request of other divisions, departments or program/services;
    3. Participate in area, regional and national forums where the interests and concerns of the LLBO need to be represented;
    4. Maintaining regular, concise reporting to LLBO, RTC, funders and our partners and allies.
  2. Utilization of all available human, technical and financial resources for the furtherance of the Band's and member's development expectations and needs.
    1. Participation in Work Groups and other opportunities to partner and collaborate;
    2. Work as a team within the Division, pool expertise and experience on specific projects;
    3. Maintain a data base of contacts, experts, consultants and technical assistance providers internally and externally;
    4. Maintain and ensure adequate budget resources to meet expectation of "best possible" in all areas.
  3. Integration of division expertise, capacity and capability to assit all sectors of the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe and its members.
    1. Work as a team within the Division, pool expertise and experience on specific projects;
    2. Identify and fill critical expertise positions to ensure maximum capacity and capability;
    3. Integration of division personnel with other divisions, departments and programs/services through collaboration and partnership.
  4. Strengthen the viability and profitability of our non-gaming businesses and enterprises.
    1. Develop long-term business plans for a Tribal Corporation and each of its divisions and subsidiaries;
    2. Work with the RTC to develop resolutions, codes and regulations that promote and advance business development;
    3. Develop critical institutions and infrastructure to support business and business development;
    4. Development strategies for critical properties.
  5. To continuously improve work process and procedures to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of delivery of services.
    1. Identify needed growth and learning on an annual basis;
    2. Identify and source best possilbe venues for training and education;
    3. Conduct an annual technology audit to ensure usage of the most efficient and cost-effective tools and resources;
    4. Ensure adequate budget resources to meet growth and improvement needs.
