The Leech Lake Housing Authority was formed by the Leech Lake Reservation Business Committee on September 1, 1963 (Ordinance 63-01) and has been in existence for over 40 years. The reformation of a Housing Authority and an independent Board of Commissioners, consisting of six Band Members is a requirment to enter into funding contracts through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Our first development projects were build in 1964-1966, which consisted of 105 rental and Mutual Help home ownership units. Since the first years of development to present the Housing Authority has built and purchased over 500 units within the reservation boundaries. Many of our homes have been conveyed to homebuyers and we now have 519 units in managment.
Governing Body
The Leech Lake Housing Authority is governed by a Board of Commissioners comprised of 6 Band Members, two members are elected from each district to represent the constituents residing in that district. The Board develops policy for the administration toutilize in the day-to-day operations of the Housing Authority. Currently the Board meets two times a month to conduct business.
