The mission of the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe Housing Authority is to develop affordable homes and housing opportunities for all Indian families on the Leech Lake Reservation, to provide efficient/sensitive services that lead to self-sufficient tenant/home owners and healthy safe communities. Housing is governed by The Housing Board of Commissioners.

NAHASDA Low Income Rental and Tax Credit Financed Rental Programs

1, 2, 3, & 4 bedroom units are available to low-income families with rent rates that are at least 50% lower than fair market rents for the area.

Current rent amounts are:

1 bedroom apt. = $125
2 bedroom = $155
3 bedroom = $185
4 bedroom = $215

Complete maintenance services are included in the rent payment. Currently we have 410 units throughout the reservation.

Mutual Help

Families may obtain ownership of their home by making low monthly payments, maintaining the unit in standard condition, and participating in training programs specified for home ownership participants for up to a twenty-five year period. We currently have 109 units throughout the reservation.

Home Ownership Program

We are in the process of developing a Home Ownership Program for Band Members to assist with obtaining a home through conventional financing. A limited number of homes will be available for purchase from the rental programs. We are in the midst of developing a homeownership program that will prepare participants for conventional financing.

Our supportive services include a housing services advocacy program that coordinates outreach to renters/homeowners for policy compliance, homeownership education, referral services and community wellness activities.

Homeless Programs and Shelter

The Leech Lake Housing Authority menages Leech Lake Homeless Shelter for families that are without sleeping accommodations and have no other resources. The shelter is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and has sleeping accommodations for 3 families at a time. Clients may stay up to 30 days.

The homeless programs youth and family provide direct assistance and referrals to eligible clients that have a housing opportunity.
