The program is responsible for preparedness and response to bioterrorism, outbreaks of infectious diseases, and other public health threats and emergencies on the Leech Lake Reservation.
The program provides:
- Education and training to community members on family emergency preparedness
- Risk communication and health information dissemination, monitors information to assure the most current and accurate information is available
- Health Alert Network/Communications and Information Technology, monitoring state health alerts
- Surveillance and Epidemiology
- Responsibility for the development and maintenance of the Public Health Emergency
- Preparedness Plans as well as various other programs as necessary
- Coordinating LLBO preparedness and response to public health emergencies
- Participates in the development, review, and management of policies for preparedness, to mitigate possible events that could jeopardize public safety, health, and the environment
- Development of training materials to educate the public
HOW TO PREPARE FOR EMERGENCIES
- Make a plan for what you will do in an emergency, develop a family communication plan;
- Get a kit of emergency supplies such as food and water for at least 3 days for everyone in your family and don’t forget your pets, get a first aid kit, supply it with items unique to your family needs;
- stay informed about what might happen or is happening, listen to the radio, watch the news, have a weather radio.
