The Leech Lake Diabetes Clinic specializes in the education, treatment and medical management of people living with diabetes and its co-morbidities. We provide clinical care, which includes physical examinations and collect specimens for labs, foot exams & screens, assist patients with standard of care appointments, release of information, etc. We provide Diabetes Self-Management Education/Training and Medical Nutrition Therapy for patients, families, and friends in individual and group settings. This includes healthy food choices, carbohydrate counting, self-monitoring of blood glucose, exercise, weight loss, medications, insulin use, smoking cessation, coping skills and depression and insulin pump use.

We provide programs on prevention and awareness for the general community, which include risk factor screenings, cooking classes, support groups, talking circles, health events, fitness programs and foot care clinics. We work with youth to emphasize awareness and prevention of diabetes, and the benefits of healthy eating and exercise by using the W.O.L.F. (Work Out – Low Fat) curriculum and having a summer diabetes camp.

We are working toward ADA recognition, which demonstrates that education is done according to the National Standards. we provide seminars/workshops on Diabetes for the staff of Leech Lake Reservation and surrounding areas.
