The Adoption Program's main function is to find adoptive homes for our Leech Lake children who are available for adoption via Child Protection. We are not able to assist with private adoptions at this time.
Pre and Post Adoption resources are available for adoptive families. There is little cost to the adoptive family, mainly the cost of filing the adoption petition (which can be waived by the court) and cost of filing for a new birth certificate.
The adoption process from application to finalization will take a minimum of six months to one year. Adoption subsidies are available for those children who are eligilbe.
Adoptive families must be either licensed or eligible for licensure in Foster Care while awaiting for finalization of the adoption.
