GreenSTep Nations

GreenStep Cities is a public-private partnership of the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA). It is a voluntary challenge and recognition program to help cities and tribal nations achieve their sustainability goals. The program is based on 28 best practices including mixed land use, green buildings, efficient city fleets and many more. Each best practice can be completed by doing one or more actions at a 1, 2 or 3-star level. There are 168 specific actions. The more actions you complete, the greater your recognition.

In 2014, Leech Lake became the first Tribal Nation to join the GreenStep program. We were recently awarded a level two award for our cost savings, energy use reduction and civic innovation in the GreenStep program. Level one is the highest level of the recognition program. There are only three levels, but some cities are participating in pilot projects, recognizing a level 4.
