LEECH LAKE TRIBAL COURT FINE PAYMENT INSTRUCTIONS 

Traffic court arraignment hearings are held at 1:00 p.m. every Tuesday of the month, except holidays.  You must appear in court if: 1) you plead not guilty, 2) you plead guilty and wish to offer an explanation, 3) the offense charged is the second violation in Tribal Court for the same offense in the last 12-month period, 4) you were involved in an accident.  Failure to appear may result in a default judgment being entered against you.

The following violations may be paid at the Tribal Court Administration offices, or by mail.  If you wish to plead guilty, enclose your signed copy of the citation along with the proper fine.  Make checks or money orders payable to Leech Lake Tribal Court.  Some violations not listed below may also be payable without a court appearance.  You may call Tribal Court Administration at (218) 335-4418, (218) 335-3586, or (218) 335-3682 if you have any questions.

Speeding

NO PROOF OF INSURANCE:    You are required to provide to the Court by mail or in person proof that your vehicle was insured on the day the citation was issued.  If you do not have insurance, you must appear in court on the date set by the officer.  Proof of insurance must include: 1) the vehicle that you were operating must be identified, 2) coverage for the date of the violation must be indicated, 3) it must be on a letterhead from the insurance company/agent, 4) the policy number and agent’s telephone number must be included, and 5) it must be signed by an authorized agency of the company.

ORDINANCE NO. 1

FINE SCHEDULE

The following shall constitute the fine schedule for violations of Leech Lake Motor Vehicle Code.

The fine amounts shown above are the maximum amount allowed in Ordinance No. 1.  The Court shall have discretion to make a downward departure based on degree of violation.  Additionally, any person who violates any provision of this Ordinance shall pay all expenses incurred regarding enforcement.

The following shall constitute the fine schedule for violations of Leech Lake Motor Vehicle Code.
