Workforce Innovation & Opprotunity Act Program (WIOA)

We provide assistance for a career path leading to full time emplyment and self sufficancy.

A specific career pathway and emphasis on the labor market needs of the area. With career assessment, interest and abilities testing. Job skills and job search skills classes. Referrals to other employment and training programs, local workforce centers and post secondary institutions. Employment assistance and placements, short-term employment; paid apprenticeships; post secondary tuition assistance which is done after all other options have been verified to be used up. Other assistance is for those that need a GED certificate of have earned their GED. For those living onthe reservation and enrolled in a federally recognized tribe and for out of service area Leech Lake band members, not older that 1 year from date receiving certificate. Summer Youth employemnt for ages 14-24 with emphasis on career exploration employment or what is available during the summer months.

Preemployment Requirements

  • Attend Job Skills Classes
    Wednesdays at 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • Attend Job Club Classes
    Thursdays at 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Open to youth ages 14 to 24 and adults ages 18+
  • Must be enrolled in a federally recognized tribe
  • Unemployed for 7 consecutive days
  • Low income
  • Live within our service area

Summer Youth Program

The Workforce Investment Act (WIA), Youth Program, provides five (5) weeks Work Experience to low income eligible youth. Youth ages 14-21 years of age living in our service area. Youth are placed within tribal programs and Non-Profit Organizations during the summer months.

Eligibility Requirements

  • 14-21 years of age
  • Must be enrolled in a federally recognized tribe
  • Low income eligibility
  • Live in our service area
  • Must be unemployed for at least 1 (one) full week
  • Available to work 5 weeks

Documents Requested

  • Verify enrollment
  • Proof of residency
  • Verify parents income for the past year
  • List all persons in household

Intake Procedure

  1. Fill out WIA application and see Program Manager for eligibility
  2. Placement in worksite by request of the employer and what is presently available
